What Does ‘Discovery’ Mean? We are learning about discovery in the new Discovery Center. In my picture I discovered something new about a snake. What I discovered was what kind of snake it was and what the snake looked like. Discovery also means doing something new. You discover something new every day. How do you discover?

Crusie Arcade Game - Research Paper: Sport 4 Identify the Problem How can we, as Caine has inspired, demonstrate through teamwork our imagination, determination, and passion for creativity and innovation, with our own arcade constructions? Explore What Makes an Effective Professional Arcade Game? The game that I chose to find out what makes a professional arcade game was Highway Race. The company that created the game is Camadro, Inc. You play the game by using the arrow-keys to move the red car. The object of the game is to get to level ten by not crashing into any of the other cars that are driving on the road. You finish the level by going straight in different lanes while avoiding the cars. There is a time limit. You also try to get the money that is on the road. The money looks like a golden dollar sign. The rules of the game are shown under the screen that you play on. I think the difficulty of the game would be 3 stars out of a possible 4 stars. You win the game by finishing all ten levels. If you win the game you get to play again.
I think the supplies that you will need to build the game are wires, electricity, metal, cardboard, tape, Hot Wheel’s (toy cars), and ropes. I think the game costs about $950 to build because you need a lot of expensive tools.
Again, the game I played was Highway Race. The URL address is:
http://www.freearcade.com/HighwayRace.flash/HighwayRace.html. Design Brief What is the Concept Design of My Crusie Arcade Game? We created this arcade game called Sport 4. The instructions of the game are going to be found on the side. For the first game level, you shoot a hockey puck and try to score a goal using a hockey stick. For the second game level, you shoot a bouncy ball into a basketball hoop and try to score. For the third level, you flick a soccer ball into the hockey net, on the fourth game level you role a bouncy ball and try to get it in a hockey goal at a medium speed while stuff is being throw at it. The rules of the game will be displayed on the side of the game. Out of a one-to-four star rating the game is a 4 star rating. You win the game by completing all four levels. If you win the game you get a prize and get to play again.
The top view of our blueprint shows the labels and the top of our game. The side view shows the basketball hoop and bell. The front view shows everything inside the box.
The materials we will need are tape, cardboard, mini hockey stick, goal, goalie pads, a shoe box, can, number stickers, tabs, scissors, and Styrofoam. This game will most likely take five days to build. A problem we foresee is trying to keep our creation standing.

Praise: What a neat idea! I think the layout works for what you are trying to create. You designed it in a thoughtful way.
Question: How will players know what to do next? What could you do to improve your directions?
Polish: Think about being more clear about the sequence of your game and rules about each level. I would suggest writing right on the board to help usual thinkers. Use colors!
Student Comment: We designed it so everyone could play our arcade game, Sport 4. We tried really hard to make it organized. They will know what to do next while playing the game because we will tell them. We can improve our directions by making them clearer. I think we could have made the rules more. I liked how we put the paper on the cardboard.

Praise: A good idea because you get to play four games. I like how it is compact and easy to understand.
Question: Could you change some of your games to make them more different? Could you make your prize option more clear?
Polish: Make it so you don’t lose if you fail on one task. Let people have more than one turn.
Student Comment: I like the idea of four games in our arcade game, Sport 4; also because I like sports. We made it easy to understand the levels in the arcade game by telling the players how to do each level. I like the idea to change up the levels. The prize option is you get to play again for a ticket. We made it so you do not go away if you fail on the first try. Also, the levels are very hard.
Examiner: Ms. Witter

Praise: I like the variety of sports you put into your arcade game. The prize of another chance to play the game is a clever idea.
Question: Why do you need the manual [you throwing the pennies] interference with the ball going into the goal?
Polish: Could you write your directions more clearly, or print them so they are easier to read?
Student Comment: We did put a lot of sports in the arcade game, Sport 4, so everyone would like at least one sport. We wanted to give tickets as a prize because we did not have anything to bring in. We changed 2 of the levels because all of the levels were very similar. We did that before because we thought it would be much harder. We did print the directions out. We could have done a different font though.

Reflection on Project
What can we do to improve our Arcade Creation?
We could have used more materials to make the game more interesting.
Specifically, how would we do this?
We could have brought more materials from our houses.
Reflection on Process
What did you learn to do with the Crusie Arcade Project?
I learned how to design an arcade game and all of the steps to engineering.
What do you know now that you didn’t know before doing the Project?
I know what to do if a creation does not turn out how you want it to and what engineering is.
What can you do know that you couldn’t before doing this project?
Make an arcade game and teach how to make an arcade game.
What did you like about the project that helped your learning?
I liked the engineering process and how all the kids played the game [their ability of different sports].
What could have been done differently to help your learning?
I would of made an arcade game myself while everyone else is making one to show how to make a great arcade game.
